RESIDENTS registered to vote in the Pendle Council and Police and Crime Commissioner elections next Thursday, May 5, do not need to register again to vote in the EU referendum in June.

Pendle Council has received a number of enquiries from residents about whether they need to register twice to vote.

Elections manager Gill Turpin said: “If you’ve already registered to vote in the May elections, you don’t need to register again, unless your circumstances have changed.

“But if you haven’t registered to vote and want to have your say in the EU referendum, you must register by June 7.”

The referendum on Britain’s membership of the European Union will take place on June 23.

West Craven residents can check if they are on the electoral register in Barnoldswick Council Shop; at Contact Pendle, Number One Market Street, Nelson; and in Barnoldswick, Colne and Nelson libraries, or by calling the elections office on 01282 661662.

People can register to vote online at the gov.uk/register-to-vote web page.
