A SILSDEN church will benefit from an exhibition of hand-made quilts.

The event was staged by Silsden Methodist Church to raise funds for the church.

Organiser Jenni Smith said a total of 37 quilts were put on display which had been made by 17, mostly local, people.

This event also saw the launch of the Silsden Community Quilt project, with people from the town being encouraged to make a quilt square.

Each square is to be decorated to reflect an individual Silsden community group or local business.

People involved can also decorate a quilt square to show off a part of Silsden life which is particularly special to them.

Silsden Community Quilt organiser Deborah Thorley, said she hoped as many people as possible would contribute a square to the quilt and bring it to Silsden's St James Church on July 16, when the building will be one of the venues for the 2016 Silsden Community Showcase Day.

She added: “It will be brilliant to see the Silsden Community Quilt come together at our showcase day, which is one of the series of Silsden’s Grand deParty events throughout July, marking the second anniversary of the visit of the Tour de France."
