HUNDREDS of cyclists have signed up to take part in Skipton Cycling Club's Le Petit Depart sportive ride next Sunday, June 5.

It is the third time the event, which features rides of 38 miles and 80 miles, has taken place, with the first being run to mark the arrival of the Tour de France Grand Depart in Yorkshire in 2014.

This year, there are awards for the those taking part, including prize vouchers from JACS Trade and DIY for the first male and female riders home on the 80-mile Challenge Sportive and Keelham Farm vouchers for the first male and female riders home on the 38-mile Scenic Sportive.

Le Petit Depart follows much of the Tour de France 2014 Grand Depart Stage One route, starting from Skipton and travelling north into the Dales.

The event is supported by Craven District Council, and Cllr Linda Brockbank, lead member for working with communities, said: “This is a fantastic event and it’s great to see so many people entering this year.

"Craven district and the Yorkshire Dales has some truly spectacular scenery and some wonderful roads for cycling.”

To sign up, visit lepetitdepart.co.uk. Entries close on Monday.
