THE Yorkshire Dales LEADER Programme is inviting funding applications for rural projects that will capitalise on the distinctive environmental and cultural landscape of the Dales.

The programme has been set up to address the problems of ‘rurality’ within the Yorkshire Dales.

Co-ordinator, Rima Berry, said: “LEADER is a community-led rural development programme, which aims to improve the quality of life and prosperity in rural communities.

"during the next five years, we’ll be distributing £2.232 million to support initiatives that help to develop a diverse rural economy and create sustainable communities.”

Grants of up to £35,000 are available for projects in the LEADER area, which support micro and small rural and farming businesses, the tourism sector, bio-energy supply chains and innovative and flexible rural transport solutions.

Outline applications must be submitted by July 25.
