YEAR seven and eight pupils from Giggleswick School will be treading the boards next week.

They will stage Honk, based on Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling, at the Richard Whiteley Theatre.

Ugly is born as a duckling, but it soon becomes clear he is no ordinary duck. Mocked on the farmyard, pursued by the ever-hungry cat, Ugly finds himself lost on a nearby marsh in the middle of a duck-shoot and embarks on an odyssey through the countryside, meeting a battery of colourful characters and finding himself, and love, along the way.

Settle Primary School pupils will attend one of the performances to get a feel for the space before they stage their own production of Grease in the theatre. It will also give Giggleswick pupils the chance to perform in front of a large crowd.

There will be two performances – on Tuesday at 1pm and on Wednesday at 7.30pm.

Teacher and director, Bethan Stoll, said: "We’re staging a matinee and evening performance to give our pupils the opportunity to perform twice and make the most of everything they’ve learnt.

"The production has been so much fun to rehearse. and year seven and eight students should be very proud of themselves."

Tickets cost £5 and are available from giggleswick.org.uk/rwt or call 01729 893180.
