INGLETON is preparing to roll back the years with its popular 1940s weekend.

A Winston Churchill look-alike, The Royal Logistics Corps Silver Stars parachute display team and a Battle of Britain memorial flypast will be feature as part of the fun.

The event – during the first weekend in July – will see the village transformed, with attractions also including a challenge to 'defuse a bomb' and a replica Spitfire.

There will also be dancing and live music in the streets, pubs and in the community centre, from the Friday evening to the Sunday afternoon.

Many of the activities will be free, with this year's event featuring a host of new acts, including Kitty Lamere as well as old favourites such as George Formby impersonator Colin Bourdiec, plus a magnificent parachute display finale.

Tim Goundry, chairman of the Ingleton 1940s Committee, said: ‘The weekend is a celebration of community life from the decade.

"There are both military and civilian interests, and this year we have focused on transport with motorcycles, classic cars, Jeeps, a spitfire, tractors, buses, the beautiful Thwaites Dray pulled by Shire horses and much more.

"We also have more stalls booked in than ever before and more choices of evening entertainment, with three separate events on the Saturday evening alone. There are lots of family activities, from stalls and games to a vintage photography session with costumes provided – a truly great way to capture some special memories."

The fun is due to start on the Friday, with music and dancing from 7pm, and from 10am on both Saturday and Sunday.
