SOUTH Craven School students began arriving early to collect their results last Thursday, despite most already knowing whether they had achieved their first choice of university or college.
Alice Throup, from Draughton, was delighted to have gained As in geography and biology and a B in chemistry.
"I'm really pleased because I've done better than I expected," she said.
"I'd struggled quite a lot so I was feeling nervous. The hardest subject was chemistry and it was difficult to balance social life with A-levels.
"I've got into my first choice of university, which is Manchester to study midwifery.
"Midwifery is very competitive but I've researched and read a lot about it and it's something I really want to do."
Chloe Birch, from Cross Hills, gained an A* and an A for her double art A-level and an A* in textiles.
"I'm very, very happy," she said. "I knew I might get one A* but to have got two is amazing.
"Textiles was the toughest subject – it was just the sheer amount of work involved. I was at school till 8pm nearly every night.
"I've got into Falmouth in Cornwall to do fashion design."
Emily McGonigle, from Skipton, joined South Craven School after sitting her GCSEs at Aireville School.
She got four As in psychology, history, communication and culture and for her extended project qualification.
"History was the hardest subject," she said. "I did the history of Ireland and there was a lot of economics and politics to get through.
"I'm going to Newcastle University to do archaeology as I want to be an archaeologist. My extended project qualification was about Roman Britain."
Esme Gill, from Keighley, was celebrating As in biology, chemistry, maths and an A* in her extended project qualification.
"I couldn't be happier," she said. "I needed AAB, but I've done even better.
"It was really stressful but I know I had to work hard to succeed. I could not have asked for more support from the school.
"I'm going to study chemistry at York University, which is a four year course that includes spending a year in industry. I hope to be able to go on and do a Phd."
Bradley Hargreaves, of Silsden, picked up As for maths and German and a B in business.
"It was very hard work and I'm relieved that I've got something out of it," he said.
"Business studies was the most difficult subject for me. There isn't much time in the exam and you're just constantly writing.
"I'm going to Newcastle University to study German and Spanish.
"I haven't really thought about what job I'll do afterwards. But I know that with a degree in languages there should be a lot of opportunities."
Bradley Twigg, from Sutton, gained As in psychology and English literature, a distinction* in dance and an A* for his extended project qualification.
He said he was especially pleased to have managed such a marked improvement in English literature.
"I got a D in it last year, so was expecting to only get a C this time," he added. "I never thought I'd get an A, so I'm very happy with that.
"It wasn't easy because of the amount of texts you have to read and know well enough for A-level standard. There were 12 books in two years from Shakespeare to modern authors.
"I'm going to Lincoln University to do psychology with clinical psychology."
