FAMILY and friends of Skipton Building Society employees have just started a course in British Sign Language which aims to give them the skills to help them converse with deaf and hard of hearing people. The 10-week introduction course has been put together through the 'Learn with Aegis' union project and is led by BSL trainer Claire Kerrigan at the society's headquarters at The Bailey.
One of the learners, Sophia Allen, said: “You’re not worried about looking silly if mistakes are made -everyone will support you until you’re feeling more confident. We’ve already learnt a lot in the first few weeks and I look forward to the next session”.
The current course is now closed, but the society chiefs hope to run further courses in the future.
