Representative from the Skipton branch of the campaigning organisation 38 Degrees visited Kirby Misperton near Malton to show solidarity with fracking protestors.

A spokesman for the Skipton group said: "Hydraulic fracturing (fracking) is a well stimulation technique in which rock is fractured by a pressurised liquid and it has been linked to air and water pollution, radioactive waste, despoiled land and methane emissions, although this has been disputed by some scientists and the fracking industry.

"The Kirby Misperton Protection Camp, which recently featured in a BBC Look North item, is one of a number of such protests – particularly in the north of England – where local residents have demonstrated their concerns over the effects that fracking might have on their environment and health."
