TWO long-serving members of the Skipton branch of charity Parkinson's UK have been honoured at the groups' recent annual general meeting.

Founder member Val Rowsley, who helped start the group in 1993, and Peter Womersley, who has been secretary since 2008, have been presented with certificates to mark their service.

Rebecca Ward-Dooley, area development manager for Parkinson's UK, made the presentation and spoke about volunteers being the "lifeblood of the organisation."

The Skipton branch meets on the third Thursday of the month at the Soroptimist Rooms, Otley Street.

Parkinson's Awareness Week starts on April 10, and marks 200 years since the condition was first documented by James Parkinson of the Royal College of Surgeons.
