FREE swimming is set to be provided during school holidays for primary school children in West Craven.
“Beginning at the Easter holidays, pupils at primary schools in West Craven will be able to enjoy free swimming sessions at West Craven Sports Centre (in Barnoldswick) and the pools at Colne and Nelson,” said county councillor David Whipp. “This is brilliant for families in our area.”
Together with other county councillors, Cllr Whipp was asked to put forward projects that would benefit the health and wellbeing of residents.
“I thought having free swimming for children would encourage healthy exercise.”
Cllr Whipp has asked Barnoldswick Town Council to be responsible for the funding, which will also cover children at schools in Earby, Kelbrook and Salterforth.
The £7,050 cost of the scheme for the next year is being paid by Lancashire County Council’s Public Health Grant.
