THE life and musical loves of a man who died aged just 49 are to be celebrated on what would have been his 50th birthday.

Loved ones and friends are to gather at the Black Horse in Skipton, on Saturday, March 25, to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and to commemorate Allan-Cushy-Hogan's life.

Allan, a plaster by trade - he ran his own business - died suddenly from a heart attack while on holiday in Keswick, on May 9, last year.

More than 400 people attended his funeral and celebration of life at Waltonwray's in Skipton on Wednesday. May 25. More than £600 was raised in his memory for Manorlands hospice in Oxenhope.

Karen said: "We were overwhelmed by and grateful for the number of people who came to pay their last respects. Allan was described as 'a larger than life character', 'a true gentleman' and 'one of the best'.

"He made a huge impression on business colleagues, family and friends and is very sadly missed. He was well-known in the building trade and liked throughout Skipton and beyond."

The celebration of his life at Black Horse was sold out in 24 hours and DJs and the bands were giving their time for free.

They had been overwhelmed by the generosity of people who had donated to the 60 prize raffle some of which would be drawn on the night including a "bed of your choice" by Silentnight, a weekend in a holiday cottage and sports memorabilia.

The raffle is to be drawn on Sunday, March 26, at Venue in Skipton and all proceeds will go to the British Heart Foundation.

Allan is survived by his wife Karen, son Billy, daughter Amber, step-children Laura, Katie, Oliver and Molly, four grandchildren and his brothers Michael and Daniel.

People are also to tackle the Three Peaks at a date in May.
