THE life of a stalwart supporter of Barnoldswick in Bloom was commemorated with the planting of a memorial tree on Saturday.
A rowan tree was planted in memory of Diane Cardwell who passed away last year.
“Diane was a tremendous supporter of Barnoldswick’s bloom group and our town council events, particularly Barnoldswick Beach,” said Barnoldswick town councillor David Whipp. “Diane was really good with the children, who loved her, and she was a key member of our team. We very much miss Diane’s involvement with our activities.
“The bloom group and the town council have got together to plant the memorial tree. We thought a rowan would reflect Diane’s character. The tree has been planted in an area which we are developing as a wildflower meadow. This too, is a fitting place for Diane to be remembered.”
Young children, along with residents and staff from St Andrew's House, were amongst those to take part in the simple ceremony.
The bloom group thanked local businesses Gledstone Gardens and Aspect Forestry for their help in transporting the commemorative tree to Barnoldswick.
• Barnoldswick’s bloom group will continue work on the memorial area for Diane during National Gardening Week, when the volunteers will be holding community action days on both Saturday and Monday.
