A LOTHERSDALE woman is running in the London Marathon on Sunday to raise money for a charity which supports the deafblind or people with sensory impairments.
Lucy Hirst, 25, has already raised over £2,400 for the charity Sense, the National Deafblind and Rubella Association, which has helped her nephew, four-year-old William Hirst, of Cowling.
Lucy's mum, Jayne Hirst, also of Lothersdale, said: "Mr grandson William was born with a severe disability. He's blind and can't see fully and he has problems with walking. Everything has taken so long for him.
"Lucy is training hard but she has done of bit of running before, and has previously run in the Manchester Marathon."
Jayne added that Lucy is eager to take part in Sunday's race, saying "taking part in the London Marathon will be a tick off her bucket list."
Although her mum said that Lucy has "smashed" her original target of raising £2,000, she is now hoping to raise £3,000.
