A BARNOLDSWCK man who drove 'a little too quickly' home after finding McDonald's in Skipton shut was over the drugs drive limit, heard magistrates.

Police stopped Jack Fancy at 2am on the A59 at West Marton because of his speed, the Skipton court was told.

A road side drugs test was positive and he was taken to the police station for a blood sample. While at the station, police found he had a Vaseline tin in his possession containing a small amount of white powder, the court heard.

The powder was cocaine, while the blood sample later revealed he had 200 microgrammes of benzoylecgonine, the main ingredient of cocaine, in 100 millilitres of blood, four times the legal limit of 50.

Fancy, 20, a man of previous good character, of Gisburn Road, admitted drugs driving and possession of a class A drug.

In mitigation, the court heard he had bought the cocaine at a party the previous night and had taken it with a friend. Not realising it would still be in his system, he had driven to McDonald's in Skipton the next day, had found it was shut and had driven home a 'bit quicker than he ought', the court heard.

A fully employed steel erector, his employer had yet to decide whether he would keep his job, the court was told.

Fancy, of Gisburn Road, was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £650, with costs of £85 and surcharge of £65. There was no separate penalty for the possession of cocaine. A forfeiture and destruction order was made on the cocaine.
