A DRIVER in a single car accident on the A65 near Gargrave was over the drink drive limit, heard magistrates.

Police responding to reports of a collision on April 20, found a car with a flat tyre on the Skipton bound carriageway, the Skipton court was told.

Driver, Victoria Matthews, 45, provided a positive roadside breath test and was taken to the police station where she was revealed to have 40 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 35.

Matthews, who admitted drink driving, told the court she was mortified by what had happened, adding she was very anti drink driving.

She added she had no previous convictions and in more than 25 years of driving had not even received a parking ticket.

Matthews, of Kendal Close, Hellifield, was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £406 with costs of £85 and surcharge of £40. If she completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course, her ban will be reduced by 12 weeks.
