A BARNOLDSWICK canal historian has received an award in recognition of a new book he released last year.
Mike Clarke, 68, of Barnoldswick, was awarded the 2017 Canal Book of the Year prize by the Railway and Canal Historical Society.
The award was for his book, A History of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which was published in 2016, the 200th anniversary of the Leeds and Liverpool.
The 434-page book contains an assessment of the promotion of the canal and its associated waterways.
It looks not just at the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, but also various canal projects, including one local to Craven.
Last year Mr Clarke had the lock at Bank Newton named in his honour.
He recently visited Skipton Waterway Festival and was on board the heritage canal boat Kennet, which is 70 years old this year.
