AS part of this week's National Parks Week, a series of guided walks are taking place in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Seven walks, led by enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers, are taking place, across the national park, recently voted the nation's favourite.

On Tuesday (July 25), there is a four mile circular walk from Linton, taking in Linton Falls and Mill, and discovering its connection with the plague, the great fire of London, and Castle Howard.

On Saturday, there will be a walk to the Erratic Boulders of Norber and a 'secret dale'. The around five mile walk will take in the glacial Norber Erratics, and visit the little known Crummackdale. The walk will set off at 11am from the national park car park in Clapham, and return at around 3.30pm.

National Parks Week is aimed to showcase the best of the Yorkshire Dales, while also raising money for the Three Peaks Project, which keeps the paths to and from Ingleborough, Penyghent and Whernside, in good condition for the thousands of visitors.

"Our guided walks are an opportunity for everyone to spend time in our stunning landscapes with friendly Dales Volunteers,” said Catherine Kemp, the national park's education and events manager.

“Some of our volunteers have been involved in looking after the national park for many years; there’s not much they don’t know about it.”

Adults will be charged £5, children are free, but dogs are not allowed.
