A PHOTOGRAPH which judges considered "perfectly captured the beauty and character of the Yorkshire Dales" is to take pride of place on next year's Dales Millennium Trust calendar.

The image, of late summer harvesting at Semer Water near Leyburn, was captured by photographer Paul Hunter and can currently be seen in the Grassington office of holiday lets firm Yorkshire Cottages.

Paul's picture won a competition organised by the company and the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust charity, marking five years of them working together to showcase and promote tourism in the Dales.

Sales of the calendar will help to raise cash for the Trust.

The competition was judged by professional photographer Steve Finch of Settle. Paul also received a luxury hamper full of local produce for his efforts.

Drew Dunn, director of Yorkshire Cottages, said: “Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust has done a lot of fantastic work to benefit the area, which Paul’s photograph captures perfectly. This competition has become an annual tradition which we are happy to be involved in year after year.”

Pictured with Paul, centre, are Deborah Bower of Yorkshire Cottages and David Sharrod of Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.
