THE sun drew the crowds to a very successful Bentham Agricultural Show at the weekend.

Held at Bentham Auction Mart, the show president this year was the mart's senior auctioneer, Stephen Dennis, who carried out his show duties with great enthusiasm.

Saturday's annual event saw a splendid display of vintage tractors, machinery, cars and stationary engines, with T. Armstrong’s 1958 Ferguson FE 35, restored by Grant Parker, awarded best exhibit in the vintage section.

Show secretary, Janet Lawson, said there were fantastic exhibits in all sections from handwriting to Herdwick sheep, cattle to cakes, Pygmy goats to photographs.

"The judges had a challenging task," she said.

There was also an increase in the number of trade stands, both inside the auction mart buildings, and outside on the showfield.

Award to the best outside trade stand went to Graham Fawcett Plant Ltd, while Michelle Hodgson, owner of Studio 42 was awarded best inside trade stand and best overall in the show.

Children had plenty to keep them happy with entertainment by Trevor Cooke - 'the number one for fun', who performed balloon modelling and music and fun.

And, there was also a treasure hunt with a difference organised by Churches Together which saw children hunting for sheep.

"We would like to thank everyone who supported this year’s show and hope to see them all again next year," said Mrs Lawson.
