A DRIVE to make village of Kettlewell the 'perfect wedding venue' is being launched this weekend.

The initiative, spearheaded by the village hall in collaboration with the village church and local businesses, is the idea that the whole village of Kettlewell makes a ‘unique package’ for a ‘picture perfect’ wedding, from a traditional church service or blessing in St Mary’s with local children tying up the lych-gate, to guests enjoying food and local ales in the three pubs and a fully catered reception in the village hall or a marquee in the grounds.

Championing the initiative, local resident of 52 years, Barbara Lambert, said: “We’ve had so many fabulous weddings and parties over the years that we thought it was about time we showcased why Kettlewell is so much more than any conventional venue for really unforgettable special occasions.

“It’s often the case that celebrations in Kettlewell go on for three days and not just one night. Friends and family meet up on Friday over a few drinks and a meal in one of the pubs, then the main event takes place on Saturday and the whole weekend is rounded off with a traditional Sunday lunch – and Yorkshire puds of course.”

She said Kettlewell makes the perfect backdrop and has frequently featured in films and TV shows as a classic Dales village - first appearing in the opening credits for the original Emmerdale Farm and was most famously the setting for much of The Calendar Girls, including Kettlewell Village Hall.

The initiative is being launched this Sunday at the village’s first ‘Wedding and Party Venue Fair’ in Kettlewell Village Hall.

Visitors can see the village hall and grounds but also meet many relevant local suppliers for a reception or party, including a beautician, hairdresser, photographer, florists, cake bakers, caterers and event furnishing companies.

The event is free and runs from 11am to 3pm, with light refreshments available.

Barbara said anyone planning a wedding or party can also pop into the church and check out accommodation for guests, from hotels and bed and breakfasts to the YHA and Kettlewell campsite.
