This month saw the ninth Petal Relay for Life take place at a brand new venue, Thornton Hall Farm Country Park in Thornton-in-Craven, and it was hailed a huge success.
The Petal Relay for Life event (on behalf of Cancer Research UK) was one of 40 events happening across the UK this summer with thousands more around the world. The event is organised by the Petal Fundraising Group, all volunteers who work together to beat cancer sooner. All funds raised from the event support the work of Cancer Research UK’s childhood cancer research.
Over 400 people came along and took part in this family fun overnight event at the country park.
With the sun shining, teams who have been fundraising for Petal began their 24 hour walk – which was in a relay format - to pledge their support.
The event was opened by Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson and Dr Liz Randell from Cancer Research UK as the Survivors took their place for the opening lap.
Throughout the weekend the event was supported by local bands including Undercover, The Switch UK, Oddall and local singers including Kate Dean, Kelsie Mcardle, Ellie Fergueson, Sophie Clarke and Mollie Jesson.
On Saturday the Salterforth Agility Club came along to showcase their Cruft Winners. The Stunt Monkeys also supported the event with their fun and daring bicycle displays throughout the day.
The Candle of Hope Ceremony took place on Saturday evening with a moving performance from local lady Hannah Brown.
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through pioneering research. By starting or joining a Relay For Life team, and raising as much as you can, you will bring us a step closer to the day when all cancers are cured. If you would like to sign up a team, get involved or donate to the Petal Relay for Life please contact Chair, Angela Stuttard at angelastuttard@hotmail.co.uk
Survivors are invited to the Relay for Life event as VIP’s to recognise their fight and for also beating cancer. A Candle of Hope ceremony took place on the evening of the event; to celebrate life, remember those lost to the disease and to also recognise the progress being made, providing hope to people who have been diagnosed with cancer.
