A DRINK driver has been banned from the roads for three years by Skipton magistrates after being stopped by police in Cross Hills.

Shane Donnelly, 31, was stopped during the force's anti drink and drugs driving Operation Attention campaign as he drove a Nissan Qashqai along Keighley Road on December 31.

A road side breath test was positive and he was taken to Harrogate Police Station where he was found to have 48 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 35.

Donnelly, of Ash Street, Cross Hills, who admitted drink driving, had a previous conviction for driving over the limit in 2013, the court was told.

In mitigation, Mohammed Hussain, said Donnelly had consumed a couple of drinks and had believed he was fine to drive the short distance to the shops.

He said he was in full time employment and highly regarded by his employer.

Donnelly was banned from driving for three years and fined £400, with costs of £85 and a surcharge of £40. If he completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course, his ban will be reduced by 36 weeks.
