A SPELL as Barnoldswick and Earby Rotary Club’s first lady president, Kathryn Mendoros, ended as she handed over leadership of the club to her successor.

Because the presidency this year is being shared, Kathryn’s reign lasted a comparatively short time and next in line, William Taylor, took over the role. He is a past-president, last holding the office in 1995-96.

In recent meetings, club members have been puzzled but not bowed by a quiz organised by Jeffrey Ashworth, and amazed by spectacular pictures of wildlife by awards and medal winning photographer Jo McIntyre.

Her pictures, published many times in magazines and newspapers, included a “flying” squirrel, birds such as a pair of fighting black grouse, kingfishers, capercaillie and birds of prey.

Perhaps the most fascinating pictures were of grizzly bears fishing for salmon in Alaska and of two of the animals locked in combat, with the photographer risking her own safety by getting as close as she could.
