AN exciting day out betting on the horses is promised at Skipton Races on Saturday, May 5 at Heslaker Farm.

The Pendle Forest and Craven Hunt point to point event, will see jockeys and their horses battle it out over a three mile course with obstacles.

There will also be charity race for amateur jockeys, which will be the first race of the day.

Some 12 jockeys have signed up for the amateur race, which unlike the proper races, will be a flat race of about 1.5 miles, with no obstacles.

This year, the race is being held in support of the Skipton based, Principle Trust Children's charity, which sends vulnerable children and their families on much needed holidays.

The race is open to anyone, on any type of horse or pony, with the only requirement that all riders must raise a minimum of £250 in sponsorship. Police and crime commissioner, Julia Mulligan, is a past competitor in the race.

There will be on course totes, for betting, refreshments and trade stands.

The Principle Trust charity race is due to start at 1pm, with the proper racing starting at 2pm with the Tom Bannister Mixed Open Race, which has £1,000 in prize money.

Gates open 11am, £10 for adults, and free for children under 16 years old. Heslaker Farm is off Heslaker Lane, Carleton, off the A59 between Skipton and Broughton.
