SIR - How sad to hear (T&A 25th April) about the ‘last hurrah’ of the Saltaire Day of Dance.
Held twice a year since 1995, it is the creation of Louise Eaton who saw it as way of raising funds for a number of charities, especially Oxfam, CND and UNICEF.
She was also aware that dance promotes an atmosphere of tolerance and understanding through participating and sharing with others.
With more than 50 workshops, entrants have been spoiled for choice and many friendships made.
Louise has been an important part of Saltaire’s commitment to performing arts in the tradition of Edith Beaver in the 1930s (who organised the annual pantomime in the village and ran a dance school), through to Eddie Lawler and Hattie Townsend more recently.
I’m full of admiration for everyone who gives their time and creativity freely in this way for the benefit of the community.
