RAILWAY stations at Settle, Horton-in-Ribblesdale at at Ribblehead will be playing host to art exhibitions this weekend, Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9.

The exhibitions of work by artists from the area is being put on by Three Peaks Arts and follows on from the success of the Three Peaks Arts trail earlier in the summer.

At all three venues, there will also be workshops and drop in activities.

Workshops will work around the themes of 'journey' and 'travel' and will also give people the opportunity to appreciate the surrounding landscapes.

The two hour workshops, which will cost £10 per person and be aimed at both adults and children, will include a range of skills and techniques such as ceramics, printing, photography, textiles, drawing and creative writing. There will also be postcard making sessions.

Organisers hope visitors will take advantage of trains to get to the three stations where the exhibitions are taking pace.

A Three Peaks Arts spokesperson said: "People can then spend a day visiting the exhibitions, talking to artists and participating in the activities on offer. This will be a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the wonderful landscape and railway from a slightly different perspective while being involved in creative activities and we hope that families will take advantage of this event and come along for a fun day out."

The events are being run with the co-operation of the Settle - Carlisle Railway and Northern Rail, and are being sponsored by the lottery funded Stories in Stone, developed by the Ingleborough Dales Landscape Partnership, and led by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.
