Dreams of drier weather for the second Skipton Medieval Festival came true.

Visitors to the first festival on December 2 were drenched by heavy rain, but blue sky this Sunday brought crowds flocking to the town.

Town centre manager Dave Parker said: "We were a bit nervous that we might have a repeat of the weather from the first week - particularly as the weather on Saturday was appalling.

"But we were extremely lucky and thousands of people paid us a visit for what turned out to be one of our busiest ever events.

"Reports from many market traders suggest that they had a really good day and I've had similar reports from other businesses around town.

"Some of our charity stalls ran out of stock or prizes and had to send out for more supplies.

"Overall, I was delighted with the day. The atmosphere was great and everyone I spoke to was having a really good time."

A full programme of entertainment took place including repeat performances from medieval fight re-enactors Knights In Battle, the Penny Plain Theatre Company, Accrington Pipe Band, Skipton Brass and many others.

Skipton mayor Carole Manley led the traditional children's lantern procession up the High Street, with music provided by Barnoldswick Brass Band, and the whole event was rounded off with a carol service in the grounds of Holy Trinity Church.
