SKIPTON at home, keen to remain high in the league table, set out to impress right from the first whistle and outplayed Thirsk for most of the match in a 2-0 victory.

Thirsk didn't sit back though and fought hard to win the ball, but Skipton were on their heels and turned possession over on several occasions from the opposition's misplaced passes.

Skipton dominated the first half of the game and Thirsk gave very little for the home side's defence to do.

Just before the half time whistle, a short corner in Thirsk's D was awarded.

Skipton, keen for the challenge, stepped up and Jackie Thornborrow scored, taking the hosts into the break one to the good.

The second half started at a quick pace.

Thirsk came back fighting and were determined to score, but Skipton were still wanting more goals and kept the pressure on,

The visitors were quick when they broke with the ball.

But the opportunities that Thirsk had didn't transpire to anything of a serious threat due to Skipton's strong defence.

They only really had one shot on goal, which was saved by keeper, Becky Stapleton.

Skipton were awarded a few short corners, but didn't manage to place the ball correctly.

Eventually, after midfield and attackers kept pressing, the hosts managed to put pressure on Thirsk's defence and, with the away side's goalkeeper down, Amy Barber crept a ball over the line, with the help of a Thirsk leg.

The game ended 2-0 to Skipton, with the Man of the Match award going to Georgina Bailey.

Helen Cartlidge was selected as the Opposition Man of the Match.
