A Barnoldswick ex-pat's campaign to create the most kicked football in history has seen a flamboyant MP and a famous sports commentator put the boot in for charity.

Film producer Blake McGrow's "Most Kicked Ball" campaign got rolling last week and, in just a few days, has been backed by MP George Galloway and BBC football commentator Ray Stubbs, who both gave the specially-made ball a kick in exchange for a donation.

And next week, Mr McGrow will be visiting family in Barnoldswick for his 40th birthday and is hoping people and businesses from West Craven and Skipton will line up to take part in the MKB campaign.

Blake is currently roaming the country allowing people everywhere to kick the ball in exchange for a donation to charity.

Blake thought up the idea after reflecting on how football can unite people from all walks of life, and the sporting theme continues with the way the money raised by MKB will be allocated.

People who take part in the campaign nominate and vote for their favourite charities in an online league table on the MKB website.

Last week, Blake travelled to Ulverston in Cumbria to take the ball to Adam Robinson, who won an eBay auction to have the first ever kick.

Dressed in a tuxedo for the occasion, Mr Robinson said, in typical footballer parlance: "Not many people come to this place and get a result, but I showed desire and commitment. It was a big ask, but I did the job."

As the first kicker of MKB, Adam was also presented with a bottle of champagne, which he dedicated to "the many charities that will benefit from the Most Kicked Ball".

Next up, Ray Stubbs - a former footballer himself - became the first celebrity to join in the campaign when he calmly side-footed his MKB kick.

Then, on Tuesday, Blake visited Westminster and created the first-known football ever to be kicked inside the grounds of Parliament by George Galloway MP.

Mr Galloway is on a par with football referees with the controversy caused by his views and opinions. But the rhetoric spoken this week was far from confrontational as he lent his charitable support to MKB.

"I have always believed that everyone should use their vote, and I am asking them to vote today, and to vote with their feet, by kicking the Most Kicked Ball," he said.

Blake said the celebrity endorsements were just the start of his campaign "We're just in the very early days at the moment, but it's going very well and I've got lots of people interested.

"It's great that we got a football figurehead like Ray Stubbs involved and I'm hoping to get some other big names on board soon.

"If anyone in Skipton or Barnoldswick wants a go, I'll be in the area from next Thursday to Sunday and I'll come to them - all they need to do is get in touch," he added.
