AN open day is due to be held at Skipton Fire Station on next month's International Women's Day to give women an idea of what it might be like to work for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

There will be three drop in sessions during 'have a go day' at the Skipton station in Broughton Road on Wednesday, March 8 with people given the chance to have a look round and talk to the station's female firefighters to find out what the job involves.

A spokesperson for Skipton Fire Station said it might be the best decision some women might ever make. They said: "As part of International Women's Day on Wednesday, March 8, we are hosting an awareness event, held at Skipton fire station, in the hope to provide the public with an understanding of some of the roles available within the fire service and perhaps whet their appetite to join us as employees."

Open sessions on March 8 will take place at 10am to midday; 1pm to 3pm and 6pm to 8pm. Those interested in finding out more can go along, or telephone 01756 692563.
