THE defending champions of Craven Lawn Tennis Club's president's day mixed doubles competition were beaten into second place at the Gargrave club's annual event.
After the completion of the 'round robin' part of the competition, open to all members, the two highest scoring couples played a deciding set in which Sally Clarke and Graeme Southam beat the 2022 defending champions Sally Hopkinson and Jack Tarrant.
The players were able to dodge the rainy weather on the day of the contest and use the four grass courts of the club. The three all-weather courts were fortunately not needed on the day.
