YORKSHIRE Dales charity, Friends of the Dales popular programme of free online talks resumes on October 11 with In Your Words – Words from the Dales.
In the talk, Dr Fiona Douglas, project lead for The Dialect and Heritage Project based at the University of Leeds proposes to bring to life some of the key discoveries the team has uncovered through its research work carried out in partnership with the Yorkshire Dales Countryside Museum and Ryedale Folklife Museum.
Snippets of rare audio interviews gathered by researchers in the 1950s will be presented alongside newer oral histories, to showcase how the Yorkshire language and dialect has changed and developed over the last 75 years.
Other upcoming talks include, Beneath the Cracks – the Hidden World of Limestone Pavements.
