PEOPLE will gather in Skipton and in Settle to mark next week's Holocaust Memorial Day, which this year will consider 'the fragility of freedom'.

In Skipton, there will be a vigil outside the town hall at 5pm on Friday, January 26. Organised by the Craven District of Sanctuary, it will remember victims of genocide in Cambodia, Bosnia, Dafur and Rwanda, as well as all the Jewish people, gay people and Roma persecuted and killed by the Nazis in the Second World War.

In Settle, people are invited to join Settle Quakers at 6.45pm on Saturday, January 27 in the Market Place with a lighted candle before walking to the Meeting House. An exhibition marking Holocaust Day will take place in the Meeting House throughout the day.
