A VOLUNTEER group looking after Skipton's 'hidden gem' -The Wilderness - is going from strength to strength.

Over the last year, the Friends of the Wilderness group has sprung back following the Covid-19 pandemic and has carried out several volunteer days working on the tranquil woodland off Otley Road. Most recently, the team put up bird boxes, repaired bug hotels and identified what species of plants grow there.

There has also been a full repair to steps down to the stepping stones, crossing the beck thanks to grants from Skipton Rotary and Skipton Craven Rotary Club.

A spokesperson for the friends said: "The group wishes to thank both rotary clubs for this contribution to the maintenance of this wonderful area. We were joined by Brian Stott from Skipton Craven Rotary Club and Judy Hazlehurst from Skipton Rotary Club on the volunteers day."
