A CHARITY has put out an appeal for volunteers to help run a new outward bound group for people in Craven with young onset dementia.
Dementia Forward is starting a Craven group for people developing dementia before they are 65 years old following the success of other 'Time Out Together' groups in Harrogate, York and Scarborough, and following a donation from a generous funder.
Using a minibus, the team will be collecting people from Skipton and Settle for days out.
A spokesperson for Dementia Forward said: "The group is aimed at giving people an opportunity to spend time with peers and take part in physical activity in a safe, supportive environment. We are looking for volunteers who enjoy walking, spending time outdoors and taking part in activities, who would like to support this group to continue to enjoy these things too. An understanding of dementia would be desirable, but is not essential, as training will be provided."
Anyone affected by young onset dementia and would like to know more about the new group, or who would like to volunteer, call the helpline. Those taking part will need an assessment. Call the helpline on 03300 578592 or email info@dementiaforward.org.uk; or visit www.dementiaforward.org.uk
