A PLAN to construct holiday lodges on farmland in Carleton is being recommended for approval at next week's area planning committee of North Yorkshire Council.

The proposal involves the change of use of agricultural land to the north of Carla Beck House, Carla Beck Lane, to accommodate eight, timber clad lodges together with access and parking.

It will be decided by councillors instead of planning officers after being 'called in' by Councillor Andy Solloway, who represents Skipton West and West Craven, because of public interest and concerns over flooding.

A report to Tuesday's meeting of the Skipton and Ripon area planning committee in Skipton states that despite concerns over flooding, highways, design, amenity, visual impact and biodiversity, 'the proposal is considered to have mitigated these concerns subject to imposition of planning conditions'.

They include the submission and approval of a scheme detailing foul and surface water drainage and the formation of 'root protection areas' around trees and hedgerows to be retained as part of the scheme.

It is the third attempt to site holiday lodges at the site, both previous applications were refused with the most recent appealed, but withdrawn before the appeal decision was made.

Tuesday's (March 5) meeting will take place at 1pm in the Craven offices of North Yorkshire Council, Belle Vue Square, Skipton.
