Bride Joanne Hosker was determined to get to her wedding reception – and she wasn’t going to let a stuck Range Rover get in her way.

Everything had been going fine for Joanne, 31, and bridegroom Matthew Lloyd, 29, for their big day on Saturday.

With the threat of snow, the couple, from Sutton-in-Craven, had ordered a Range Rover to get Joanne and her bridesmaids to Kirkby Malham Church.

The church service went to plan and the happy couple decided to drive the scenic route to the reception at Cracoe Village Hall to get some wedding pictures in the snow. But a mile outside Winterburn, on a snow-covered hill, the Range Rover got stuck.

It was then up to Wendy Hutchinson, who had organised the wedding flowers, and her Land Rover to rescue the couple and get them to the reception – but not before Joanne was forced to ditch her Jimmy Choos for wellies.

“We thought the Range Rover would be really good in snow and we made sure the driver knew what he was doing,” said Joanne.

“We wanted to get some shots in the snow, so we went off with Matthew’s dad, Keith, who was taking the photographs for us.

“Just before we got into Winterburn, we were going up this hill and the car started slipping a bit and the more the driver tried to get it going, the more it slipped.”

After a while and with time ticking on for the reception, the couple decided to call for help.

“Luckily, I was able to get reception on my phone and I called Wendy, who I knew had got a Land Rover. I told her we were stuck on a hill and she said she’d be with us in 15 minutes.”

The couple got out of the Range Rover and walked up the hill to make it easier.

“I’d got my wellingtons in the car, so I took my Jimmy Choos off and started up the hill,” said Joanne.

As they were walking, they passed a couple of wedding guests who had also got stuck.

“We ended up 50 minutes late for the reception, but we were there in time for the food,” said Joanne. “Everyone was pleased to see us, as word had got around and they were a bit worried.”

As for the Range Rover, a friend at the reception arranged for a farmer friend to rescue the driver.

And Joanne, a regional account manager for Divensey, and Matthew, a teacher at Oakbank School, Keighley, have got some unusual wedding snaps.

“We did get some good photographs, although they were not quite what we were expecting,” said Joanne.
