Scenes for a new romantic comedy series were shot in Craven on Sunday.

Limehouse Lane near Carleton and Skipton High Street provided the backdrop for the filming of Antony And Cleopatra, a six-part BBC1 series that will be screened in the summer.

A car chase, featuring the main characters, played by Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid, was filmed by Red Production Company.

Location manager Andy Morgan said: “We caused considerable chaos on the streets of Skipton with this, and we had a fun but slightly stressful day. Skipton looks great on camera.”

He said that the series was set in and around Harrogate and Ripponden.

“In the story, the characters go to Skipton for day out,” said Mr Morgan.

“Although sometimes we cheat locations and film somewhere else, we didn’t want to cheat Skipton. The town has a very distinctive High Street with the church at the top, so we wanted to film it there for real.”

The move to film in the town was welcomed by Elizabeth Cummins, landlady of the Red Lion, on Skipton High Street. “It’s got a lot of history and culture and is a nice-looking, but quiet town.

“They were driving up and down the street and going around the roundabout from about 8am to noon. We opened our doors to provide them with a place to keep warm and we served them coffees.”
