Hellifield teenager Beth Wright has been selected for the Under-18 girls’ inline hockey Junior Olympics this summer.
This is her third year of selection to the GB teams – but she cannot go to the Games in Los Angeles without securing sponsorship.
“I have had to ask for Beth's place to be put on hold for February until I can be confident that we can obtain some help,” said Beth’s mother, Eve. “With all the extra training, kit and hotel bills, the total cost is around £1,800.”
Sixteen-year-old Beth has also taken up ice hockey, with a view to getting in the England squad within a year.
She has already signed for four ice hockey teams – Blackburn Under 16s boys’ team, Blackburn Thunder (a women's only team), Kingston Diamonds Under-16 girls and the North Under-16 girls Conference squad – and matches take her across the country. And that is in addition to her membership of four inline hockey teams and the Great Britain Under-18 girls hockey squad.
The teenager is currently in her last year of GCSEs at Settle College and, in addition to her rigorous training schedule, she finds time to help with her hockey fees by dog walking and babysitting.
