Restoration of Barnoldswick Bancroft Mill chimney complete
10:10am Friday 29th June 2012 in News
Restoration of the Bancroft Mill chimney has been completed and the 600-horsepower engine will be steaming again this Sunday.
Doors to the historic Barnoldswick mill open at 11am and the engine runs from 1pm to 4.30pm.
“The 92-year-old Bancroft chimney is now completely restored and the 120 feet of brickwork gleams in the sun,” said Bancroft trust member Harry Moore. “In its elevated position it stands high over Barnoldswick.”
The Cornish boiler will be under steam feeding the Roberts engine and many model engines are on display in the engine hall. The Bradley engine rebuild is ongoing whilst a Pilling Lancashire loom can be seen undergoing fitting of a new beam.
Portrait artist Noreen Lobo will display some of her work in the engine hall and will also be on hand to produce portraits during the afternoon.
