There was plenty of choice of newly-calved cattle and in calf cattle at Gisburn Auction Marts dairy show and sale on Thursday.
James and Anne Rogerson, of Singleton, achieved the top sale price of the day at £2,350 with the first prize winner of the newly-calved pedigree heifer class, giving 38 litres. She sold to David Wamsley, of Worston.
Next lot under the hammer from the same vendor was a second lactation cow, giving 42 litres, which sold for £2,320 William Oldfield, of Gisburn.
Raymond and Robert Johnson, of Felliscliffe, claimed both the first and second prize rosettes in the commercial heifer class which sold for £1,980 and £1,950. Topping the in-calf heifers section were regular vendors Terry and Robert Moran, of Nappa, Hellifield, at £1,780, and at £1,760 was Long Preston’s Alan Harker.
