There was a fantastic entry and trade for dairy cattle at Gisburn Auction Marts pedigree show and sale on Thursday, August 15, with numerous cattle achieving over £2,000.

Craven farmers dominated the sale, with pre-sale show champion topping the day’s sale prices at £2,400 from John & James Dugdale, Stackhouse, Settle with his newly calved, Karona Bonair sired heifer, which sold to Tom Wilson, Rockcliffe, Carlisle.

Next best was RM Shackleton, Broughton, Skipton, with a Toystory sired heifer, giving 35 litres which sold for £2,280 to PJ Bolland, Airton, Skipton. WA & A Booth, Austwick, Lancaster sold a pair of newly calved Crackholme Fever sired heifers for £2,240 and £2,080 to Tom Wilson, Carlisle.

Others in the money included James Rogerson, Singleton, Poulton le Fylde, first with his newly calved heifer which sold for £2,250 to Hill & Davies, Wrexham, North Wales, his next lot under the hammer was a newly calved cow, giving a very impressive 50 litres which sold to for £2,200 again to the same purchaser. Regular vendors, J & M Singleton & Sons, Goosnargh, achieved a very respectable £2200 for a newly calved heifer giving 34 litres and another giving 32 litres which sold for £2,000 Heading the commercial section was H Ward, Brindle, Chorley, newly calved heifer sold for £2,100, and he was closely followed by Raymond and Robert Johnson, Felliscliffe, Harrogate with a newly calved heifer, which sold for £2,080.

In calf heifers peaked at £1,480 from Terry & Robert Moran, Nappa, Hellifield, Skipton, whilst bulling heifers levelled at £910 and heifer calves at £390.
