GRASSINGTON Town Hall saw the launch of Hartlington Press - set to be another successful, thriving and independent business in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

It was a great opportunity for budding authors to meet those who had experienced the entire writing process and have direct contact with a publishing house that understands how hugely personal a writer’s work is to them - because it was formed by writers.

As part of the Grassington Festival, the launch brought together new and aspiring authors who listened with avid intent as extracts from both Starlings’ Yard, by Andrew Jackson and The Alter Ego of Marjorie Primm by Penny Hart-Woods were eloquently, movingly and often amusingly, brought to life by the narrators Mark Bamforth and Jane Ellison-Bates.

Both authors spoke of their personal experiences throughout the process of writing and publishing their novels, giving thought provoking and inspiring insights into the life of a writer.

The audience were delighted with an informative and heart-felt talk by Lesley Horton, now into her seventh published crime novel, who explained the trials and tribulations of becoming a published author both in print and digitally.

The evening progressed with flowing champagne and book signings by the resident authors who were on hand to discuss their works and the local artist Helen Peyton was on site to personalise the books gift bags, wrist tags and bookmarks as part of the Grassington Festival WordLab event.

Hartlington Press is reaching out to new writing talent to develop, nurture, support and encourage these new story tellers across all genres.

Both new books are available in paperback and digital format via hartlingtonpress.co.uk and from The Hub, Grassington.
