POULTRY breeder Mark Rangeley, from Slaithwaite, near Huddersfield, ruled the roost with a pair of exhibition quality Black Orpingtons at the Craven Feather Auction Christmas show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart.
Mr Rangeley, who hatched the title-winning cockerel and point-of-lay pullet in May this year, is a renowned Orpington man, having bred Blacks, Buffs, Blues and Cuckoos for 30 years.
He shows all over the country and is a past breed club champion at Stafford, also landing a local show in Brockhalls a few weeks ago. His victors, which won the large fowl show class, sold for £40.
So too did the first prize small fowl and reserve champions, a pair of 2015 White Wyandottes from show regular and several times past champion, Derbyshire breeder David Pownall, of Old Glossop.
Top price in show of £105 fell to a trio of 2015-hatched Light Sussex from I&S Clough, of Pickering. Show judge was Wetherby’s Geoff Marston. The 2016 poultry season at Skipton begins on Saturday, January 16.
