ERMYSTED’S Grammar School and Skipton Girls' High School are taking a trip to the jazz age in their forthcoming production of “The Great Gatsby” based on the classic novel.

Set in the roaring twenties, at the height of prohibition, the play follows enigmatic millionaire Jay Gatsby, and his obsession with the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, in a tragic tale of romance and the American Dream.

Directed by Ermysted’s Sixth-Form students Jonathan Herbert, Sam Burton and Isaac Culshaw, the performance features Charlestons and flappers as well as a live band, and hopes to continue the close relationship between the two Skipton schools.

Jonathan Herbert, one of the directors, said “it’s great to be working with the Girl’s School this year, which means unlike last year, the boys in the cast can put their high heels away and hang up their dresses”.

Tickets for the show, which will be performed on Thursday, March 19, Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21, at 7.30pm at Ermysted's, are available from Ermysted’s school office on 01756 792186, and will also be available on the door priced at £6 for adults and £4 for concessions.
