AN Earby woman was one of four winners of the Nelson and Colne Markets Food For A Fiver Challenge.

The markets ran the competition to encourage people to share affordable, healthy recipes to feed four people, costing no more than £5.

Pendle Council, which runs the markets, teamed up with affordable food guru Gill Watson for the campaign.

Earby winner Jess Lomas won bags full of £50 worth of meat, vegetables and produce from the markets.

Jess said: “I can’t wait for my bag with the ingredients for a big fat mixed grill feast to treat my family, including steak. I’ve even asked for a pig’s ear for the dog!”

Markets manager Ian Varley said: "Anyone who’d like to make some of the winning recipes and other recipes sent in by Pendle residents for the £5 challenge can visit our website pendle.gov.uk/markets."

Competition judge Gill Watson, who worked as personal chef for Pierce Brosnan and a range of demanding clients from celebrities to supermodels, presented prizes to the winners.
