CANCER Support Skipton is holding a special event for unpaid carers who are supporting people with a cancer diagnosis.

And, it could pave the way to the formation a new carers support group.

Centre co-ordinator Debi Hawkins said: “Cancer Support Skipton provides support to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis – that includes the family members and friends who are extending support at what can be a very distressing time. "Often people can be suddenly thrust into the role of carer without realising or acknowledging that it’s happened. Unpaid carers save the government millions of pounds a year by caring for people at home – but who cares for the carers when they need support?"

The event will be held at the charity's Armoury House, on Otley Street, Skipton, on Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm and will bring together Craven-based agencies whose remit is it provide help, advice and support for unpaid carers in the community.

The Carers Resource will give a short update around the impact of changes of the Cares Act while other local charities, including Just Ask and CareFree, will talk about the services they provide.

Refreshments will be provided and to book a free place, contact debi.hawkins@bradfordcancersupport.org.uk or call Cancer Support on 01274 776688.
