MUSIC from Dales Jam, a display of canine skills and a bucking bronco contest were among a wide variety of attractions that drew the crowds to Ingleton Gala on Saturday.

Hundreds of visitors to what is the village's longest-running annual event enjoyed mostly fine weather and a range of activities, including a "guess the weight of the cake" competition, feeding and cuddling the Greenside Alpacas, and taking part in a fancy dress competition

Highlight for many was the display in the main ring by the dogs of the Pendle Dog Agility Club, who delighted the crowd with the enthusiasm and skill with which they tackled ramps and ran through tunnels.

Dales Jam community jazz band got the day off on a high note by leading the parade from Ingleton Primary School on the route to the sports field as Gala Queen Shauna Danskin and her retinue waved to the onlooking crowds from their beautifully decorated trailer.

The gala is the main fundraising event of the year for Ingleton and proceeds go into the coffers for village projects.

Beryl Morphet, of the gala organising committee, said: "It was a really brilliant day and very enjoyable.

"The display by Pendle Dog Agility was superb, food stalls did a roaring trade, and the bucking bronco was popular - not least with my 12-year-old granddaughter Isobel, who won by staying on for 51 seconds!

"It's too early to say yet how much money was made, but we are confident it was a very successful day for the village.

"The committee will shortly be having a meeting to analyse how we can improve the event for next year and we'll be starting to plan for it shortly after that."

The Gala Queen's attendants were Finn Durkin, Ella Burrow, Annabel Bibby, Gemma Tyrie, Flo Nicholls, Thea Downing and Ella Bibby.

And almost 200 runners entered the Ingleborough Mountain Race, which is run as part of the gala every year. There were runners entering from as far as Guildford, East Fife and even an entry from Vancouver, Canada.

The winner of the men’s race was Steve Hebbethwaite, of Keswick, with a time of 47 minutes 12 seconds, the fastest time for some years. Hannah Horsburgh, also of Keswick, broke the women’s senior record by 10 seconds, completing the run in 52.49. The under 18 boys' race was won by James Maxwell, of Settle, and the under 18 girls' race by Anna Cartmel Done.
