A CEILIDH organised by a family in aid of Manorlands raised £800 for the hospice.

The event at Glusburn Institute last month was laid on by the Whitaker family as part of its Team Angus appeal.

Julie Whitaker, from Glusburn, said: "It was very successful and attended by 70 people.

"Everyone danced all night to music by the brilliant Phoenix Ceilidh Band and enjoyed a pie and pea supper supplied by Chris Herd of Ingrow.

"Thanks must go also to Cross Hills Co-op, Kingfisher Fish and Chip Restaurant, Forteas Tea Room, 22 The Square, Keighley Cougars, Glusburn Institute and Keighley's Morrisons supermarket for donating raffle and charity auction prizes."

The family fundraisers dubbed themselves Team Angus, in memory of Mrs Whitaker's father Angus Smith, who died in February aged 88. He was cared for at the Oxenhope hospice before he died.

The family's fundraising effort will culminate in a charity ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Mrs Whitaker and her husband Michael will scale the peak with their sons Paul, Sam and Matthew, and are due to fly out to Tanzania on Boxing Day.

Mrs Whitaker said: "We are near to reaching our target now, and hope that planned collections over Christmas will secure that vital money much needed by Manorlands."
